Second tree-planting day this Sunday

Hedges support up to 80% of our woodland birds, 50% of our mammals and 30% of our butterflies. They enable wildlife to move through the countryside, protect soils from wind erosion, and provide shelter for people and livestock and habitats for pollinators.

Our recently planted south boundary double hedge has 210 saplings and comprises Blackthorn, Crab Apple, Dog Rose, Elder, Hazel & Rowan. When mature these will provide leaves, flowers berries and nuts for wildlife to feed on.

The second of our tree-planting days is this Sunday, 12th April. We will be planting mixed native trees like Rowan, Oak, Blackthorn in the lower part of the field, near where the pond is planned. About 150 to go in and forecast is looking lush ! Many hands make light work, and chance to get some April sunshine in.

A few are staying over Saturday night, so that’s a possibility, otherwise we start planting around 10:00. Lifts possible from the station, and do bring a spade if you’re driving down. Parking back up the lane please. Contact Jon Sellers, 07919597180. Let him know if you can’t make it this time round please.
